Rajasthan Royals slumped to third consecutive loss in the Indian Premier League 2022 on Monday with their defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders by seven wickets. Their losing streak will be concerning as the franchise are at the fifth spot in the points table in the crunch race to the IPL 2022 playoffs and there are multiple areas of concern for the franchise.

Batting first, the Rajasthan franchise, managed to put up 152/5 runs on board with the orange cap holder and their opener Jos Buttler (22), captain Sanju Samson (54) and Shimron Hetmyer (27 not out) among the major contributors with the bat while among the bowlers the fast bowling trio of Trent Boult, Prasidh Krishna and Kuldeep Sen scalped a wicket each.

Rajasthan Royals: Coach Kumar Sangakkara makes poor call

However, one of the noticeable incidents in the match, came from the Rajasthan Royals dugout with their head coach Kumar Sangakkara attracting all the eyeballs for wrong reasons. The former Sri Lanka captain opted to send young Riyan Parag who has scored one half-century in this season ahead of the West Indies hard-hitting batter Shimron Hetmyer. Parag stepped into bat while the Rajasthan franchise were reeling at 90/3 following the dismissal of Karun Nair with Hetmyer still to bat. He could only add 19 runs off 12 deliveries while Hetmyer notched up a brilliant unbeaten knock off 27 runs off 13 deliveries which included one boundaries and two sixes. The decision taken by Sangakkara came under the radar with Jaffer coming up with a hilarious DDLJ analogy for it.
