Afghanistan fast bowler Fazalhaq Farooqi who was bought for his base price of INR 50 lakh by SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction made his debut in the lucrative tournament against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. He gave away a decent seven runs per over in his first two overs for SRH against RCB and is expected to make the most of his prowess as he gains more experience in the tournament. It was also noticeable that the 21-year-old has got plenty of variations up his sleeve as he mixed up his pace with slower deliveries to deceive the batters.

Fazalhaq Farooqi: Holds a bowling average of 12 in T20Is

Farooqi, from Baghlan, Afghanistan, made his foray to the national team in 2021 when he made his T20I debut against Zimbabwe at Abu Dhabi. He has featured in three matches since then and picked up six wickets with the best bowling figures of 3/12 and a magnificent average of 12.00. His ODI debut came later against the Netherlands in 2022. He has picked up seven wickets in the 50-over format at an average of 25.14.

Fazalhaq Farooqi: Troubled CSK batters

The left-arm fast bowler, star of Afghanistan U-19 campaign in 2020, was a net bowler for Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL 2022 and bowled against the likes of Chris Gayle, KL Rahul, Nicholas Pooran, and Mayank Agarwal. “I am glad I have got the opportunity because IPL is a huge platform for me to grow as a player and to be with world-class players. I’m sure it is going to be a wonderful experience for me,” he said.

Farooqi was later roped in by four-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as a net bowler in IPL 2021. He grabbed the limelight during a practice match for bowling inch-perfect delivery against the likes of MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina in their weaker areas. He was also seen troubling England all-rounder Moeen Ali who got an edge off one of his deliveries. But the best chance to prove himself in the biggest T20 franchise league of the world has just been served on his plate by the Hyderabad franchise.
