IPL 2022 RR vs LSG: Yuzvendra Chahal, Shimron Hetmyer guide Rajasthan Royals to three-run victory

Yuzvendra Chahal spun a web against LSG line-up to restrict them to 162/8 and help RR clinch a close win by three runs in the IPL 2022 contest at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Sunday. 

Chasing the target of 166 runs, LSG captain KL Rahul (0), was removed on a first-ball duck off a brilliant delivery from New Zealand quick Trent Boult.

Quinton de Kock wages lone battle at the top

However, his opening partner Quinton de Kock (39), played a cautious knock of 32 deliveries which was laced with two boundaries and one hit over the fence. 

He failed to get support from the other end as Krishnappa Gowtham (0) and Jason Holder (8) were unsettled early in the match. 

Deepak Hooda (25), meanwhile, added some life to the LSG chase in his 24-ball knock but failed to convert his start into a match-winning knock while youngster Ayush Badoni (5) was sent packing early. 

Krunal Pandya and Marcus Stoinis played important cameos

However, Krunal Pandya (22) and Marcus Stoinis (38 not out), chipped in with important cameos but failed to help their side cross the line. 

The Australia all-rounder, who hit a last ball six, smashed two fours and four hits over the top in his 17-ball unbeaten stay.

Chahal (4/41) picked up crucial breakthroughs in his stipulated overs to dismantle the LSG line-up in their chase. 

Boult, meanwhile, picked up two wickets while his fast bowling compatriot Prasidh Krishna scalped one. 

Shimron Hetmyer was dropped by Krunal Pandya

Earlier, Shimron Hetmyer (59 not out) made the most of his reprieved innings after being dropped by Krunal Pandya to guide RR to 165/6. 

Asked to bat, Jos Buttler (13) and Devdutt Padikkal (29), forged a 29-run opening wicket stand before the Englishman was sent packing by India fast bowler Avesh Khan. 

Later, Sanju Samson (13) and Rassie van der Dussen (4) failed to add much to team tally, as their wickets fell in quick succession. 

Hetmyer, continued to make the most of his life, as he took the bowlers to the cleaners and combined well with all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin (28 off 23) who was retired out to increase the run scoring rate for the Rajasthan franchise.

Riyan Parag (8), meanwhile, failed to get going in the match but the West Indies power-hitter ensured that he batted till the final delivery.

Hetmyer notched up one boundary and an astonishing six sixes in his 36-ball unbeaten cameo. 

Krishnappa Gowtham shines with the ball

Off-spinner Gowtham removed Padikkal and van der Dussen to return figures of 2/30 in the match while West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder picked up two scalps for 50 runs.
