Prolific India opener Suryakumar Yadav (68 not out) played a rescue innings to help Mumbai Indians reach a decent total of 151/6 against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2022 contest at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune on the double-header Saturday.

Asked to bat, Mumbai Indians openers Rohit Sharma (26) and Ishan Kishan (26), forged an opening wicket stand of 50 runs to get their side to a steady start. The Mumbai Indians captain hit four boundaries and one six in his 15-ball fiery cameo while the southpaw smashed three boundaries in his 28-ball stay.

However, from there on, it was one-man show for Mumbai Indians as Yadav went about his innings slowly as wickets continue to fall on the other end — Tilak Varma (0), Kieron Pollard (0), Ramandeep Singh (6) — in quick succession to leave the five-time champions reeling at 79/6.

The prolific Yadav, then, changed gears to open a late surge in the death overs and even scored 23 runs off the penultimate over to forge a 72 runs unbeaten match-changing partnership with Jaydev Unadkat (13 not out).

Yadav hit five boundaries and six sixes in his unbeaten knock off 37 deliveries.
