All-round Lucknow Super Giants restricted Punjab Kings to 133/8 in the chase to clinch the Indian Premier League 2022 match by 20 runs at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune on Friday. Chasing a decent target of 154 runs, PBKS openers Mayank Agarwal (25) and Shikhar Dhawan (4), forged an opening stand of 35 runs. Agarwal made a good start to his 17-ball knock which included two boundaries and as many sixes but failed to convert it into a match-winning knock.

Jonny Baristow-Rishi Dhawan put up valiant effort

Incoming batter Jonny Bairstow (32), later, put up a valiant effort after a streak of poor runs in the lucrative tournament but failed to hold the fort for long. Bhanuka Rajapaksa (9), Liam Livingstone (18) and Jitesh Sharma (2) could not add much to the team tally in the middle-order with Rishi Dhawan (21 not out) playing a cautious knock as wickets continued to tumble from the other end. The all-rounder hit three boundaries and one six in his 22-ball unbeaten knock.

Mohsin Khan stars for LSG

LSG fast bowler Mohsin Khan ran through the PBKS middle and lower-order to pick up a three-wicket haul for 24 runs while his fast bowling compatriot Dushmantha Chameera scalped two wickets for 17 runs. The spin twins of Krunal Pandya and Ravi Bishnoi, meanwhile, share three wickets amongst them to help the cause.

Quinton de Kock-Deepak Hooda show resilience

Earlier, asked to bat, LSG lost their captain KL Rahul (6) in the third over of the match. But his opening partner Quinton de Kock (46) approached his innings cautiously and was well complimented by incoming batter Deepak Hooda (34) who played a perfect second fiddle to him. The duo forged an important 85-run stand for the second wicket which laid the foundation for their side. The South African hit four boundaries and two sixes in his 37-ball stay while the Indian all-rounder smashed a four and two hits over the fence in his 28-ball innings.

Later — Krunal Pandya (7), Marcus Stoinis (1) and Ayush Badoni (4) — fell in quick succession with the likes of Jason Holder (11), Dushmantha Chameera (17) and Mohsin Khan (13 not out) contributing few runs down the order.

Kagiso Rabada shows his class

Rabada showed his class for PBKS as he picked up wickets at regular intervals of time which disallowed the LSG batters to form a partnership and go towards a big total. He was the pick of the bowlers for his side as he returned figures of 4/38 while spinner Rahul Chahar scalped two wickets.
