Dhawan, however, continued to steer the Punjab Kings’ innings and was well supported by Sri Lanka’s Rajapaksa who played the role of a second fiddle perfectly.

The duo forged a 110-run stand for the second wicket to set the tone for the match with Rajapaksa smashing two boundaries and as many sixes in his 32-ball knock.

His dismissal saw England all-rounder Liam Livingstone stepping up to play a cameo of seven-ball 19 runs which included one boundary and two sixes.

Dhawan, meanwhile, continued to add to the team’s tally from the other end as he smashed nine boundaries and two sixes in his 59-ball effort.
