Mumbai Indians (MI) star opener Ishan Kishan will be available for selection ahead of their clash against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the IPL 2022 contest at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai on Saturday.

Kishan was hit on the toe by a yorker from Shardul Thakur in Mumbai Indians’ inaugural contest. He subsequently had to leave the field with Aryan Juyal taking over the gloves in place of him momentarily. The wicket keeper-batter later returned to keep for the Mumbai franchise but speculations were rife over his availability for the next match.

However, Mumbai Indian’s director of cricket Zaheer Khan, cleared the air on Friday and said that Kishan is fit and the franchise has taken necessary actions to help him recover in time.

“He (Kishan) is absolutely fine. We have taken necessary actions. He has been practising regularly and we had a gap in between so that also helped him,” Zaheer, a former India fast bowler, told the media ahead of the match.

Mumbai Indians’ will work out on new plans: Zaheer Khan

Kishan (81 not out) played a whirlwind knock to take Mumbai Indians to 177/5 against Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2022 contest at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday.

Asked to bat, the opening pair of Rohit Sharma (41) and Kishan forged a stand of 67 runs on a quick outfield with shorter boundaries. The Mumbai Indians captain smashed four boundaries and two hits over the top in his 32-ball innings.

The left-handed opener, who was fetched for a big sum by the Mumbai franchise at the IPL mega auction, continued to play his natural game despite losing his opening partner. But it was not enough to help his side defend the total.

Khan highlighted that his franchise are working out on new plans which will be visible in the upcoming matches. He, meanwhile, was also happy with the way things are progressing in the camp.

“I am happy with the way the plans are working, the way everyone is looking at approaching this year. You will definitely see the change in the coming games,” he said.

“It was good learning for us. You have seen the CCI (Brabourne Stadium) wicket is not an easy wicket for bowlers. You have seen in yesterday’s game also, 200 runs were chased. So, it was not an easy day for the bowlers, but in terms of planning and preparation, they are right on the money

“There have been a lot of constructive chats around the options which we can take. You know the first game is always a tricky one and you know traditionally how we have been faring in the first game of the tournament. So, usually we have been slow starters…”
