It’s second vs third as Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) face Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the match 63 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on May 15. LSG will be looking to cement their top-2 finish while RR would want to creep into the first two spots with a win. This is a matchup between two of the finest sides of this season’s IPL and the result will impact every other team fighting for a playoff spot.

Both teams have lost their last match and would be keen for a return to winning ways. LSG was completely outplayed by Gujarat Titans (GT) as they lost the match by 62 runs. Chasing a target of 145, they were bundled out for just 82, which is the lowest total so far in the IPL 2022. RR slumped to a defeat against Delhi Capitals (DC) as they were unable to defend their 160/6. They suffered a 8-wicket defeat with 11 balls to spare. LSG and RR would want to put these defeats behind and need their key players to come up big in this crucial fixture.

LSG vs RR: Let’s take a look at the three-player battles

KL Rahul vs Trent Boult

Rahul has been the danger man for LSG as he scored runs for fun this season. In 12 matches, the LSG skipper scored 459 runs at a strike rate of 140.37. Despite his incredible form, Rahul must be wary about the threat Trent Boult possess. In the last face-off between the two, Boult had the upper hand as he dismissed Rahul for a golden duck. The outcome of the battle between the two could determine the chances of the teams.

Jos Buttler vs Avesh Khan

Just like the importance of KL Rahul for LSG, Jos Buttler has been the key batsman for RR this season. He is the leading run-scorer of this year’s IPL and has amassed 625 runs. It was Avesh Khan who dismissed Buttler in the first encounter. The pacer also took 16 wickets this season and it will be interesting to see who comes out on top.

Sanju Samson vs Jason Holder

Sanju Samson is yet to come up with a game-changing innings for RR this season. This could be the right occasion for the RR captain to make up for his shortcomings. For that, he has to overcome the likes of Jason Holder who has dismissed him before. Sanju’s innings in the middle overs will most likely shape the final score of the RR innings. The winner in the Sanju vs Holder contest could be a defining factor.
