The IPL 2022 is just about two weeks away. For the Indian cricket fan, the IPL is just another step in the resumption of the ‘old normal’. For two years, people in India could not witness the IPL in their country. In 2020, the entire tournament was held in the UAE. During the 2021 edition, no fans were allowed. But, the coronavirus surge in the second wave saw the tournament suspended before it again resumed in the UAE six months later.

During the last two years, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings continued their dominance of the tournament. Mumbai Indians won the IPL 2020 for a record fifth time. But, MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings defied expectations and won the IPL 2021 title for the fourth time.

Heading into the IPL 2022 tournament, there have been some major changes in the teams. For the first time in a decade, 10 teams will be part of the IPL. In the IPL 2022 Mega Auction, many teams and players had major changes. Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya have ended their near-decade association with Mumbai Indians and joined Gujarat Titans. KL Rahul is the new captain of Lucknow Super Giants. Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians all but retained the core. Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore had some good buys.
