IPL 2022 KKR vs GT: Gujarat Titans beat Kolkata Knight Riders to inch closer to playoffs spot

An all-round display from GT helped them restrict KKR to 148/8 in the IPL 2022 clash at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai on Saturday and clinched victory by eight runs. By virtue of the victory, GT rose to the top spot with 12 runs and are racing towards the playoffs spot while KKR registered their fourth straight loss in a row. 

Chasing the decent target, KKR top-order Sam Billings (4), Sunil Narine (5), Shreyas Iyer (12) and Nitish Rana (2), failed to contribute much to the team tally.

Rinku Singh-Andre Russell play important cameos 

However, Rinku Singh, made the most of his opportunity as he notched up 35 runs off 28 deliveries which included four boundaries and one hit over the fence while Venkatesh Iyer (17) continued to look out of form. 

Later, Andre Russell, kept KKR in the leather hunt with a brilliant cameo of 25-ball 48 runs which was laced with one boundary and six sixes. 

Tailender Umesh Yadav (15 not out), meanwhile, contributed at a run-a-ball rate.

Rashid Khan, Mohammed Shami and Yash Dayal picked up two wickets each to help their side find breakthroughs at intervals of time while Alzarri Joseph and Lockie Ferguson picked up a wicket each,

Earlier, KKR bowlers Tim Southee and Andre Russell displayed disciplined bowling performances to restrict GT to 156/9. 

Opting to bat, Gujarat Titans lost their opener Shubman Gill (8) in the second over.

However, his opening partner Wriddhiman Saha (25) and Hardik Pandya (67), combined well to forge a 75-run partnership for the second wicket. Saha hit two boundaries and a six in his run-a-ball innings. 

David Miller (27), later, joined forces with the GT captain to add some crucial runs on the board. He hit one boundary and two sixes in his 20-ball knock. 

Pandya, meanwhile, smashed four boundaries and two hits over the top in his scintillating 49-ball effort. 
Later, Rahul Tewatia, chipped in with a cameo off 17 runs which included two boundaries. 

Tim Southee and Andre Russell star for KKR

Andre Russell bowled an extraordinary last over the match to pick up four wickets and restrict the flow of runs for GT. He registered figures of 1/5 while Tim Southee ran through the GT top-order to pick up three wickets for 24 runs.
