SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) lived one more day to stay alive in the crunch race to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 playoffs after beating Mumbai Indians (MI) by three runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday. By the virtue of the victory, SRH broke their five match losing streak, and are placed at the eighth spot with 12 points and one match in hand. However, their Net Run Rate of -0.230, might not favour them to qualify for the IPL 2022 playoffs with at least eight franchises still having an outside chance.

IPL 2022: Kane Williamson hails Rahul Tripathi for his batting prowess

Mumbai Indians started the chase well as their openers Rohit Sharma (48) and Ishan Kishan (43) laid a strong foundation with Tim David (46) chipping in with a cameo of 18 deliveries. However, SRH speed demon Umran Malik, was on the money once again as he picked up a three-wicket haul to restrict the five-time champions to 190/7 in the chase.

SRH captain Kane Williamson was mighty pleased with the performance from his batters and singled out Rahul Tripathi and Priyam Garg for their effort. “He’s (Tripathi) a seriously special player, he comes out and takes the momentum away. Have seen a number of times in this competition. He always bowls quick, which is obviously a strength and weapon for our side. Got an amazing skill set which if he can channel, he can turn a match as we saw.

“Priyam is a seriously talented cricketer, great that he could get the opportunity today, he’s one of those players we’re going to see a lot more of, got a really good head on his shoulders, a lot of potential but a lot of skill as well. Our death bowling has been a strength of ours and Bhuvi’s one of the top death bowlers of the tournament. His contribution today and to bowl a maiden is an amazing contribution and match winning moment really,” Williamson said at the post match.
