However, unperturbed by the dismissals, incoming batters Mitchell Marsh (37) and Rishabh Pant (44) put up a 60-run stand for the third wicket to rescue their sinking ship. Marsh hit three fours and as many sixes in his 20-ball cameo while the Delhi Capitals captain smashed seven boundaries and one hit over the top in his 30-ball innings. But Lalit Yadav could only add three runs to the team tally following their dismissals.
Rovman Powell (35) and Axar Patel (42 not out), later, combined well to keep Delhi Capitals in the leather hunt but eventually fell short. The West Indies hard hitter smashed three boundaries and two sixes in his 21-ball knock while the Indian all-rounder hit one four and three sixes in his 24-ball innings. Later, Kuldeep Yadav, chipped in with an unbeaten knock off 16 runs off eight deliveries but it was not enough to help his side sail over the line.
LSG captain utilised seven bowlers in the match. But young medium-pacer Mohsin Khan was the wrecker-in-chief as he returned figures of 4/16 in the match. His fellow fast bowling partner Dushmantha Chameera scalped a wicket while spin twins Krishnappa Gowtham and Ravi Bishnoi picked up one wicket each.
KL Rahul (77) and Deepak Hooda (52) played brilliant individual knocks to guide Lucknow Super Giants to 195/3 against Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League 2022 clash at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Sunday. Opting to bat, LSG openers Quinton de Kock (23) and Rahul, forged 42-run stand for the opening wicket before the South Africa wicket keeper-batter perished after his 13-ball stay which included three boundaries and one six.
However, the momentum of the LSG innings, was set by Rahul and Hooda as they forged a 95-run stand for the second wicket to take their side from 42/1 to 137/2. The former Baroda all-rounder smashed six boundaries and one hit over the fence in his 34-ball while Rahul continued to anchor the innings after losing his partner. His stay, meanwhile, came to an end after a 51-ball knock which was laced with four boundaries and five hits over the fence. All-rounder Marcus Stoinis (17 not out) and Krunal Pandya (9 not out), then, scored at a run a ball rate to help their side reach a challenging total.
Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant utilised six bowlers for the match. And while five of his bowlers went wicketless, it was India fast bowler Shardul Thakur who stood out, with his three-wicket haul. He returned figures of 3/40 in his stipulated four overs as he got the important wickets of de Kock, Rahul and Thakur.
