Delhi Capitals chased down the modest target of 147 runs in the 19 overs with four wickets in hand to virtually knock out Kolkata Knight Riders of the IPL 2022 playoffs contention at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday. The Rishabh Pant-led side, meanwhile, stayed alive in the IPL 2022 playoffs contention with eight points from as many matches.

David Warner fires Delhi Capitals home

Chasing the target, the capital franchise lost their opener Prithvi Shaw for a first-ball duck. But his opening partner David Warner (42) made sure to pile on the misery on the opposition bowlers with a quick fire knock although he failed to find support in Mitchell Marsh (13) who returned back into the squad after recovering from Covid-19.

Warner laid the foundation for Delhi Capitals’ win as he smashed eight boundaries in his 26-ball knock. Later, incoming batter, Lalit Yadav (22) played a slow but cautious knock in his 29-ball stay but captain Rishabh Pant (2) failed to make much difference to his team total.

West Indies power-hitter Rovman Powell (33 not out) and Axar Patel (24), then, took charge of the Delhi Capitals innings. The Indian bowling all-rounder notched up two sixes and one hit over the fence in his 17-ball stay.

Powell, meanwhile, remained unbeaten in his 16-ball stay which included one boundary and three balls to the fence with all-rounder Shardul Thakur playing a perfect second fiddle to him by remaining unbeaten on eight runs off 14 deliveries.

India fast bowler Umesh Yadav was the pick of the bowlers for Kolkata Knight Riders as he returned figures of 3/24 in his stipulated four overs spell.
