Mumbai Indians handed chances to fresh talents like Ramandeep Singh and Sanjay Yadav in their penultimate match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 against the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Tuesday. But one name which was still missing from the playing XI list was that of India U-19 fast bowler Arjun Tendulkar. The junior Tendulkar was roped in by Mumbai Indians in the IPL mega auction for his base price of INR. 20 lakh.

IPL 2022: Rohit Sharma hints on trying out young players in final league match

Mumbai Indians have looked like a pale shadow of themselves in IPL 2022. The Rohit Sharma-led side created an unwanted record of eight consecutive losses on the trot before registering their first win in the lucrative tournament this season. But their slump in form makes perfect sense as the franchise is still looking to compile their best XI from the new look squad which was formed at the IPL mega auction.

Mumbai Indians have shown that they have an array of talents including the likes of Dewald Brevis, Tilak Verma, Jofra Archer, new joinee Tristan Stubbs and batting maverick Tim David in their line-up who can prove to be a handful in the upcoming season. Their middle-order which used to have Hardik Pandya in the line-up might have looked shaky with West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard not being able to hold the fort.

Rohit believes that their final league match in the IPL 2022 against Delhi Capitals could see some fresh new faces given a chance, with junior Tendulkar also in focus. “We want to look at certain players with an eye on next year. We want to have a look at them before making a decision for next year. It is important that the core group plays. We want to keep certain aspects of our Mumbai team. We have one more game after this, and we can try a few more guys in that game,” the Mumbai Indians captain said at the toss.

Arjun Tendulkar: A look at his career

The all-rounder made his India U-19 debut against Sri Lanka in 2018. He made his Twenty20 debut on 15 January 2021, for Mumbai in the 2020–21 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy against Haryana. He picked up one wicket for 34 runs from three overs in that match. Tendulkar was the net bowler for Team India during their tour to England in 2018. He bowled against the likes of MS Dhoni, Kohli, KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan and many others during that time while also practicing with the India women’s team in the same role.  He was first bought by Mumbai Indians ahead of the auction in IPL 2021. But an injury saw him being ruled out of the lucrative tournament before he was bought by the franchise again during the IPL mega auction.
