Fiery Australia opener David Warner joined the Delhi Capitals camp after featuring in the limited-overs series against Pakistan away from home. His addition to the capital franchise has added mettle to their batting unit but he failed to make his bat do the talking in his first appearance in IPL 2022.

Warner started his campaign with a four-run knock against Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2022 on April 7. He, however, bounced back to his best in the match against Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday.

Openers Warner (61) and Prithvi Shaw (51) notched up brilliant individual half-centuries to guide Delhi Capitals to 215/5 against Kolkata Knights Riders in the IPL 2022 contest at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on Sunday.

The openers combined well to forge a stand of 93 runs which laid the foundation for the Delhi Capitals innings before Shaw was sent packing by Varun Chakravarthy.

Shaw hit seven boundaries and two sixes in his 27-ball quick fire cameo while the fiery Australian opener continued to anchor the innings for the capital franchise.

Warner, later, was involved in a 56-run stand with captain Rishabh Pant (27) who hit two boundaries and as many hits over the fence in his 14-ball knock.

Incoming batters Lalit Yadav (1) and Rovman Powell, however, failed to do much with the bat as KKR bounced back with quick wickets. Warner, also, lost his wicket to follow the suit after a brilliant knock which included six fours and two sixes.

IPL 2022: David Warner leads the most IPL half-centuries list

It was the 55th IPL half-century for Warner — the most by any batter in the lucrative tournament leaving former India and RCB captain Virat Kohli far behind at 47.

Warner has taken 152 innings to record the most IPL fifties while Kohli has hit 47 in 203 innings.

His opening partner Shaw, meanwhile, appreciated his fine knock for Delhi Capitals.

“I’m fine (after the blow to the helmet). Just keeping it really simple. It was a good wicket to bat on. The pp was important for us, and we made the most. It’s a good total. I love watching him bat from the other end (Warner). He was striking it really well. I think their plan was to bowl the slower ones where there was the longer boundary, and I think our execution was really well – striking the ball along the ground at the long boundary, and taking it on at the other end,” Shaw said in the mid-game interview.
