Chris Gayle, The Ultimate T20 Machine, has 75 Percent of His IPL Runs Only in Fours And Sixes

Chris Gayle is considered as one of the greatest players in the history of T20 cricket but in the IPL, he has scored 75.7 percent of his runs only in fours and sixes.

When it comes to T20 cricket and especially the IPL, the legend of Chris Gayle is simply overpowering. The Universe Boss catapulted the IPL into the next league of great tournaments with his stunning display of batting in his near-decade-long experience with the league. Chris Gayle is one of the few individuals who has scored over 12000 runs in T20s with over 1000 sixes and with over 20 centuries. In the IPL, Gayle holds the record for the highest individual score in the history of the T20s.

In 2013, Gayle smashed 175 off 66 balls against Sahara Pune Warriors. The knock included 17 sixes. Both his knock and the number of sixes remain a world record. His century off just 30 balls remains the fastest in the history of the format. Gayle might not feature in the IPL 2022 which is an indication that teams are looking beyond the Universe Boss. But, apart from his big-hitting, there is one stat that truly makes him one of the greatest in the business.

In the T20 format, sixes and fours are essential for a batter to ensure his team never falls under pressure. The stat that has been revealed here shows Gayle’s power-hitting to be on a different level altogether. Out of his 4965 runs, Chris Gayle has hit 75.7 percent of them as fours and sixes.

Gayle’s number of runs when it comes from fours and sixes is simply unmatched. The closest anyone ever comes to him is David Warner and AB de Villiers. But, they are in the low 60s when it comes to the percentage of runs. Among all the players with the lowest number of runs from fours and sixes, it is actually Virat Kohli. The mantra for Gayle in his success. In his entire T20 career, he has hit 10,000 runs and above in fours and sixes. Out of his 14,500 runs, 74.6 percent has come only in fours and sixes. It is no surprise that Gayle relies more on power-hitting. With the passage of time, Gayle has taken few singles and twos. But, he has increased his sixes and fours.

It is individuals like Gayle who make T20s one of the best in the business. AB de Villiers has wizardry all over the park. Kohli is brutally efficient while Dhoni gives the shock value. All of them, though, play second fiddle when it comes to Gayle and his power-hitting.
