Providence Bruins will take on the Bridgeport Islanders in the AHL USA on November 20 at Amica Mutual Pavilion. It’s looking like the Boston Bruins will have a great season as they are operating at peak efficiency. The AHL affiliate of Boston is continuing to pile up victories, and down on the farm, the Providence Bruins are following suit. With wins over the Charlotte Checkers (Florida Panthers) at home on Friday night (5-2) and Sunday (53-3), Providence’s winning run increased to five games. The Maine Mariners had a forgettable four-game homestand in the ECHL, losing two of them over the weekend. Maine suffered home losses of 5-3 on Friday and 4-1 on Saturday against the Reading Royals (Philadelphia Flyers) in a playoff rematch.
With a strong squad full of youthful talent and seasoned NHL veterans, Providence is having a fantastic start to the season. Providence scored 10 goals in two games versus division foe Charlotte and had two solid performances from goalie Brandon Bussi. On Friday, Providence won 5-2 and had 11 different players score. Jakub Lauko and John Beecher each scored in the opening frame to give Providence a lead they would not give up, with Georgii Merkulov providing two assists. Before Justin Brazeau and Oskar Steen both added goals in the third period to cement the victory, Fabian Lysell had expanded the advantage in the second period with the eventual game-winner. Nine players contributed to the 5-3 victory on Sunday, with Steen and Chris Wagner both scoring two points. On Wagner’s game-winning goal in the second period, Steen scored a goal and provided an assist. Wagner’s late empty-netter completed the sweep. Vinnie Lettieri also hit the back of the net for the sixth time this year, while Lauko scored for the second consecutive night.
