Manpreet and co. have a big task upfront and will aim to produce their best performance at Birmingham 2022 by adding a new color medal to their CWG tally.
After a 41-year long hiatus, Team India scripted history in a high-scoring match by defeating Germany 5-4, thus earning the Bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. The last time they had won a medal at the Olympics was in the Moscow Olympics 1980 when they clinched the Gold. However, the scenario is changing as Graham Reid’s team is riding high on confidence after their great display at Tokyo and third place finish in the FIH Pro League 2021-22. They will look to win their first-ever Commonwealth Games Gold medal at Birmingham 2022.
India is placed in Group B, with England, Canada, Wales, and Ghana. The Manpreet Singh-led side will start their CWG campaign against world no. 36 Ghana on July 31 and are the favorites to win their opening match. India is a two-time silver medallist in the history of the Commonwealth Games. However, the team’s quest for Gold has always been obstructed by team Australia, who beat India twice in the finals of both CWG 2010 and CWG 2014. The Men-in-blue will also seek to take revenge for their defeat in the Bronze medal match in 2018 against the hosts England when they play each other in the Group stage match. Manpreet and co. have a big task upfront and will aim to produce their best performance by adding a new color medal to their CWG tally.
