LIV Golf 2023: Mexico, Singapore, Spain announced as new venues

The Saudi Arabia-backed tour, LIV Golf, formally confirmed three new venues for its 2023 schedule on Thursday, November 30, 2022. Mexico, Singapore, and Spain have been announced as new venues. The Mexico leg will take place at the El Camaleon Golf Club in Riviera Maya, Mexico. The Singapore event will be held at the Sentosa Golf Club, while the Spain leg is slated to be conducted at the Real Club Valderrama in Sotogrande, Cádiz, España.

In a statement, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the LIV Golf stated, “These venues have played host to signature moments in golf, and we’re excited to build new traditions for the sport while delivering a first-class fan experience at some of the world’s best courses”. The league had previously confirmed that an event will be held between April 21 and 23, 2023 at the Grange Golf Club in Adelaide, Australia, the location of Greg Norman’s first professional victory in 1976.

Since major champions like Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka, and Cameron Smith were persuaded to sign lucrative contracts with LIV’s heavily subsidized tour, golf has been sharply split. The circuit includes 54-hole no-cut tournaments with fields of 48 stroke play competitors who can earn prize money in teams. More than 30 players who have competed in LIV tournaments have been banned from the US PGA Tour. Due to this, eleven players were inspired to file an anti-trust complaint against the PGA Tour in August 2022. The PGA Tour launched a countersuit against LIV Golf in September, accusing it of intervening in ongoing litigation and contracts with players.
