Robert MacIntyre of Scotland won the Italian Open after defeating Matt Fitzpatrick of England on the first play-off hole in the DP World Tour competition. MacIntyre finished with a score of 14 under after a final round of 64 that included 10 birdies, before US Open winner Fitzpatrick birdied the 18th to force a play-off. However, after a bad tee shot, the Englishman could only par the opening play-off hole, while MacIntyre birdied the hole to secure the victory. This is the Scot’s second DP World Tour success to date and first in 48 events.

One of the favorites for this tournament, Rory Mcllory finished fourth at 12 under par, two strokes back. France’s Victor Perez missed a chance to qualify for the play-off on the 18th hole, leaving him one shot behind MacIntyre and Fitzpatrick at 13 under. MacIntyre took home the $510,000 winner’s portion of the $3,000,000 prize pool. With the minimum point schedule removed from the Official World Golf Ranking, MacIntyre earned 38 points. MacIntyre finished the season with 1,335 DP World Tour points, with the top 50 players qualifying for the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.
