Youri Tielemans in Liverpool, Barcelona's radar in summer transfer window

Youri Tielemans is having another good season for Leicester City. The 24-year old midfielder is one of the most sought-after football player currently. This makes him one of the hot prospects in the summer transfer window which will open in June. According to reports, Spanish giants Barcelona and 2019 champions League winners Liverpool have expressed interest in the Belgian. Tielemans was a pivotal part in Leicester winning the FA Cup title and also in the Premier League

Tielemans has scored eleven goals and provided four assists in all competitions for club and country this season. His sensational 30-yard strike against Chelsea at Wembley earned Leicester its first FA Cup title in its 137-year history. Leicester are fifth in the Premier League, level on points with fourth-placed Liverpool. They are separated by goal difference. Leicester will host Tottenham in the final matchday.

Liverpool has had a trophy-less season and are desperately fighting for a top four finish. Jurgen Klopp’s side is in need of a creative midfielder. The 30-year-old playmaker Thiago Alcantara, who joined from Bayern Munich, hasn’t been in good form because of injuries.

Youri Tielemans for FC Barcelona?

Copa del Rey champions Barcelona, who are out of the race for La Liga title, have also struggled. They are also in need of a playmaker. Lionel Messi’s future at the Catalan club is uncertain as the 33-year-old Argentine striker’s contract with Barcelona expires on June 30 this year. Barcelona will be eyeing youngsters in the transfer market to balance an ageing side.

According to Calciomercato, Liverpool is keen to bring the midfielder to Anfield this summer, but the Reds are likely to face intense competition from Barcelona. Tielemans has scored 17 goals and registered 19 assists in 107 appearances for Leicester. Tielemans will be part of the Belgium team in the Euro 2020 starting from June 11, 2021.
