Wydad AC will host Al-Hilal in a Club World Cup fixture at Prince Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on Saturday. The winner of the clash will enter the semi-finals of the tournament. Both sides are heading into the match on the back of not so great results in their respective domestic league matches. The hosts were held to a goalless draw by FUS Rabat in a Botola Pro 1 match last Sunday, while Al-Hilal suffered a narrow 1-0 Saudi Super Cup semi-final defeat to Al Feiha, three days earlier. As of now, Wydad are occupying second spot in the Moroccan top flight standings, having collected 32 points from 16 games. The visitors, meanwhile, are sitting at the third position in the Saudi Pro League table, with 32 points to their name from 15 outings.

Last May, Wydad clinched the CAF Champions League in Africa for the third time, defeating Al Ahly 2-0. The Red Castle are now aiming to become the first African club to reach the final four of the Club World Cup since Raja Casablanca were runners-up in 2013. Meanwhile, the north African nation is hosting the tournament for the third time and the first one since 2014. Five years ago, Wydad lost to Mexican club Pachuca in extra time before dropping their fifth-place match 3-2 against Urawa Red Diamonds. Wydad of Resistance are heading into the match on the back of some solid domestic form, having recorded four wins from their last six outings, while not conceding a single goal during that period.

Al-Hilal, on the other hand, lost to Al Feiha in their last outing and therefore failed to reach the final of the domestic cup competition. Paulinho’s lone goal inside the opening 21 minutes separated the two sides at the Prince Faisal Bin Fahd Stadium. The result put an end to their 11-game unbeaten run across all competitions. This was the first time Ramon Diaz’s side failed to find the back of the net in a competitive fixture since a goalless draw with Ettifaq last October.
