West Bromwich Albion will be looking to make it three consecutive wins in the EFL Championship when they host Sunderland at the Hawthorns on Sunday afternoon. The hosts secured a comprehensive 2-0 win away to relegation-threatened Blackpool on Tuesday night, while the Black Cats are heading into the match on the back of a 1-1 draw against Huddersfield Town. As of now, the Baggies are occupying eighth spot in the English second tier standings, having collected 63 points from 42 games, just two points adrift of sixth-placed Millwall, who have played two games more. The visitors, meanwhile, have played a game more than the Albion, and are sitting two places behind them, separated by just a solitary point.

West Brom secured their 17th league-win of the season against Blackpool on Tuesday night thanks to two unanswered goals from Brandon Thomas-Asante and Taylor Gardner-Hickman. The Baggies have now recorded four wins, three draws and a defeat from their last eight outings in the Championship. Meanwhile, the Albion have been brilliant at the Hawthorns as they are unbeaten in their last 13 matches across all competitions in front of their own supporters, while winning ten games in the process. With second-placed Sheffield United and fellow playoff challengers Norwich City and Swansea City to follow, head coach Carlos Corberan will feel there is still much work ahead, but with the kind of form the Baggies are in, they might sneak through to the top six at the end of the regular season.
Sunderland, on the other hand, are unbeaten in their last six outings, but have drawn four in the period. The Black Cats shared the spoils against Huddersfield last time out despite taking the lead through Joe Gelhardt’s 35th-minute effort. Prior to that, Tony Mowbray’s side secured all three points against Birmingham City courtesy of Trai Hume’s opener on the stroke of half-time and Amad Diallo’s winner 15 minutes from time. It was their 16th second tier victory of the season. Meanwhile, Sunderland have the fifth-best away record in the division this season, having taken 33 points from a possible 63 on the road.
