West Bromwich Albion will be hoping to get back to winning ways, when they host Coventry City in an EFL Championship fixture at the Hawthorns on Friday night. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a disappointing 3-0 FA Cup fourth round defeat to Bristol City, last Saturday, while Coventry got the better of Huddersfield 2-0 in a second tier match, on the same day. As of now, West Brom are occupying 10th spot in the English second division standings, having collected 41 points from 28 games, just two adrift of the sixth-placed Blackburn Rovers, who are holding on to the final playoff spot. The visitors, meanwhile, are sitting three places behind the Baggies with as many points less to their name.

West Brom’s four-game winning run in the second tier came to an end against league-leaders Burnley (2-1) on January 21, despite taking an early lead through Darnell Furlong. The Baggies looked second-best in a match for the first time under head coach Catlos Corberan, who took charge of the team in October. After that, Corberan’s men exited the FA Cup courtesy of being thrashed by Bristol City last Saturday. Sam Bell netted a brace, while Alex Scott scored one for the Robins at Ashton Gate. Despite back-to-back defeats there is no major cause of concern within the Baggies camp.because the team has shown great character since the resumption of the competitive action following the World Cup break.

Coventry, on the other hand, defeated Huddersfield through second half strikes from Gustavo Hamer and Kasey Palmer. It was their 10th league-win of the campaign. The back-three of Luke McNally, Callum Doyle and Jonathan Panzo did a fine job to help Mark Robin’s side earn their first clean sheet in five outings. Meanwhile, it was the Sky blues’ first win in seven games across all competitions. The result helped Coventry to close the gap on Blackburn To just five points and a couple of positive results in the upcoming fixtures could take them into the playoff spot.
