Watford have made a strong start to the new year, recording two wins and one defeat thus far. Slaven Bilic’s side edged past Norwich City in the league on January 2 courtesy of Vakoun Issouf Bayo’s lone goal four minutes from time, before losing to Reading 2-0 in the FA Cup third round. However, the Hornets quickly got their acts together to get the better of Blackpool and make it back-to-back wins in the second tier. Tobi Adeyemo broke the deadlock 18 minutes from time, before Ismaila Sarr doubled the lead, from the penalty spot, in the 87th-minute and sealed the win for the Golden Boys. It was their 12th league-win of the season.
Rotherham, on the other hand, have recorded just one win from their last 14 matches across all encounters. The lone victory in that period came in their most recent outing against Blackburn last Saturday. Hakeem Offin scored in the first minute, before Oliver Rathbone, Shane Ferguson and Conor Washington found the back of the net in the second half and sealed the win for the Millers. It was a very impressive performance from Matt Taylor’s side as they executed the counter-attacking game plan very effectively. Rotherham recorded just 22% of ball possession and managed to find the back of the net four times from their as many shots on goal.
