Finland international Joni Kauko has shared his emotions experienced following Danish international Christian Eriksen‘s collapse in the Euro 2020 group encounter between the two nations. Kauko who recently completed a transfer to ATK Mohun Bagan FC stated that he was just hoping for Eriksen’s recovery. The box-to-box midfielder termed the Danish international’s collapse as something which cannot be prepared for. Kauko further expressed his thankfulness after Eriksen’s recovery, terming it as a massive positive.

“Only one thought was going through my mind at that moment. I was just hoping he (Eriksen) would fight and survive from this. You can’t really prepare for something like that. I am so glad that now he is okay,” said Kauko as quoted by the Kolkata-based franchise’s official website.

“I am very excited to join the club”

The Finnish midfielder further expressed his excitement after joining the ISL franchise, terming it as an honour.

“I am very excited to join the club, it’s an honour for me to join the biggest club in India and I can’t wait to see what next season will bring for us. I can’t wait to meet everyone, my new teammates, the head coach Mr. Antonio Lopes Habas, the support staff, the management. I hope I will get a good connection with everyone and I’m able to help the team achieve all their goals next season,” stated Kauko.

“I am coming here to win trophies”

The footballer termed winning trophies as a major goal having signed for ATK Mohun Bagan, discussing the impact of manager Antonio Habas.

“Win trophies. Simply. I am coming here to win trophies, be it the ISL League shield or the winner’s trophy, or the AFC Cup. And to do that I am willing to give my all alongside my teammates on the pitch and get the results. It went very well, actually. Mr. Habas told me about the club, about the structure, the fans, the playing style, and most importantly, he explained in great detail what my exact role would be. We had a great, lengthy chat and it made it easier for me to sign for the club. It’s extremely important to have a coach like Mr. Habas who will never get too comfortable with what he has and will always be hungry for more. That kind of spirit runs on to the players and that is why you can see he has been successful. I want to win trophies and I think having him as the coach is just what I needed,” he added.

“Kauko is a multifunctional midfielder”

Habas has expressed his appreciation for the midfielder, terming the footballer as a valuable asset in the upcoming campaign.

“He (Kauko) is a multifunctional midfielder who can play throughout the central axis of the pitch. Moreover, he can adapt very quickly and very well to different playing systems. He is a strong, physical guy and along with that brings personality and leadership on the field. I think he will have a key role to play for us,” stated the manager.

ATK Mohun Bagan reached the final of the previous edition of the ISL, making their presence felt on the back of incredible performances.
