Aston Villa will kickstart their pre-season with a friendly against League Two outfit Walsall. The friendly at the Bescot Stadium on Saturday will provide Steven Gerrard with an opportunity to assess his players’ fitness levels. Besides, the upcoming clash will also help them get some valuable game time ahead of the new season. As for Walsall, Saturday’s clash will provide them with a chance to get positive results following two defeats in their two games this summer till now.

Last season was not what Aston Villa would have wanted. They could only finish in the bottom half on the 14th spot. Gerrard will be keen to improve on that performance and help them fight for European places in the upcoming campaign. They have also made some good signings in this window so far which could help Gerrard make them play better all around. On the other hand, Walsall suffered back-to-back defeats in the summer so far. They have a tough task in getting anything out of a Premier League outfit, nonetheless, they will try to provide them with a difficult challenge.
