Viktoria Plzen will host Bayern Munich in a UEFA Champions League fixture at the Doosan Arena on Wednesday night. The reverse fixture between these two sides at Allianz Arena last week ended 5-0 in favour of Bayern, courtesy of goals from Leroy Sane, Serge Gnabry, Sadio Mane and Eric Choupu-Moting. The result helped the Bundesliga outfit to move to nine points from three games and consolidate the top spot in Group C, while Plzen are languishing at the bottom of the four-team table, yet to open their account.Â
🗣️ @J__Nagelsmann on #PLZFCB: “With twelve points, we would be well-placed to reach the knock out phase. That would give us some peace of mind, especially ahead of Sunday. This is a very important game. It’s up to us to remain relaxed as we have done in the #UCL thus far.” pic.twitter.com/DmTKk5QtnH

Plzen are heading into the match on the back of a 2-0 win over Mlada Boleslav in a Czech first League fixture on Saturday. Ludek Pernica’s 54th-minute strike broke the deadlock before Vaclav Jamelka doubled the lead, seven minutes from time. Michel Bilek’s side are currently occupying top spot in the Czech First League standings, having collected 26 points from 10 games. Meanwhile, in the European stage, Plzen lost all of their three matches thus far, against the likes of Barcelona (5-1), Inter Milan (1-0) and Bayern Munich.Â
Bayern, on the other hand, have beaten each of their three opponents without conceding a single goal. The Bavarians began their Champions League campaign with back-to-back 2-0 wins over Inter Milan and Barcelona, before putting five goals past Plzen without reply. Meanwhile, in the domestic circuit, Julian Naglesmann’ side have been struggling, having collected 16 points from nine games to be sitting at the third position in the Bundesliag standings, four points adrift of leaders Union Berlin. Should Barcelona fail to beat Inter at Camp Nou and Bayern beat Plzen as expected, their place in the knockout stages would be secured with two matches to spare.Â
