Valencia have not been in La Liga action since January 6, when they lost 1-0 to Cadiz, through Ruben Alcaraz’s early strike. After that, Gennaro Gatuso’s side traveled to Saudi Arabia for the Supercopa de Espana, where they lost out to Real Madrid on penalties. However, Los Che managed to get their acts together in the Copa del Rey round of 16 fixture on Tuesday, scoring four times without reply against the Spanish second tier side. Veteran striker Edinson Cavani netted a double, while Jutin Kluivert Samuel Lino scored one goal each at El Molinon to take Valencia through to the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey.
Almeria, who spent seven straight seasons in the Segunda Division before winning the second tier last term, have given a good account of themselves in the La Liga thus far, recording five wins, three draws and nine defeats. Last time out, Indalicos managed to earn a point against the 2020 champions, courtesy of El Bilal Toure’s 37th-minute strike which canceled out Angel Correa’s opener. La Union were knocked out of the Copa del Rey in November, so each of their last three games have been in the league, picking up two points.
Valencia midfielder Samu Castillejo and Nico Gonzalez are sidelined with injuries, while the rest of the squad is fit and ready to go. Cavani, who netted a brace in the last outing, will continue to lead the line, with Lino and Kluivert in support. As for Almeria, Baptistao, Toure and Embarba might continue to form the attacking-trio, with Lucas Robertone pulling the strings in the midfield.
Valencia Probable line-up: Mamardashvili, Correia, Comert, Diakhaby, Gaya, Musah, Guillamon, Almeida, Lino, Cavani, Kluivert
Almeria probable line-up: Martinez, Pozo, Ely, chumi, Akieme, Robertone, Costa Melero, Baptistao, Toure, Embarna
