Valencia will be hoping to get back to winning ways in the La Liga when they host Almeria at Mestalla on Monday night. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a thumping 4-0 Copa del Rey win over Sporting Gijon in the mid-week, while Almeria played out a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Atletico Madrid in the league, last weekend. Valencia are currently occupying 13th spot in the Spanish top flight standings, having collected 19 points from 16 games, while the visitors, who have played a game more, are sitting one place below Los Che, with one point less.

Valencia have not been in La Liga action since January 6, when they lost 1-0 to Cadiz, through Ruben Alcaraz’s early strike. After that, Gennaro Gatuso’s side traveled to Saudi Arabia for the Supercopa de Espana, where they lost out to Real Madrid on penalties. However, Los Che managed to get their acts together in the Copa del Rey round of 16 fixture on Tuesday, scoring four times without reply against the Spanish second tier side. Veteran striker Edinson Cavani netted a double, while Jutin Kluivert Samuel Lino scored one goal each at El Molinon to take Valencia through to the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey.

Almeria, who spent seven straight seasons in the Segunda Division before winning the second tier last term, have given a good account of themselves in the La Liga thus far, recording five wins, three draws and nine defeats. Last time out, Indalicos managed to earn a point against the 2020 champions, courtesy of El Bilal Toure’s 37th-minute strike which canceled out Angel Correa’s opener. La Union were knocked out of the Copa del Rey in November, so each of their last three games have been in the league, picking up two points.
