Universidad Catolica will host Sao Paulo in the first leg of their Copa Sudamericana last -16 fixture at Estadio San Carlos de Apoquindo on Thursday. The hosts are heading into the tie on the back of a dominant 3-0 win over Union San Felipe in their Copa Chile third round fixture, while Sao Paulo played out a goalless draw against Juventude in the Brazilian league match last Sunday. On Saturday, Catolica netted three times against .Union San Felipe without reply. Marcelino Nunez opened the scoring inside the opening 11 minutes before a second-half brace from Diego Valencia sealed the win. Meanwhile, in the group games of the Copa Sudamericana, Ariel Holan’s side managed to register just one win which came against Sporting Cristal, while they also secured one draw which proved crucial in getting them this far in the competition.Â
Sao Paulo, on the other hand, have been impressive in the continental competition, winning five of their six group games to secure top spot in Group D with 16 points, five more than second-placed Everton. Tricolor Paulista have been the second best team in the entire competition to this point as they have only conceded three goals while scoring 12 times during the group stage. The Brazilian outfit has been pretty solid at the back, having kept three clean sheets in their last five games across all competitions.

Universidad Catolica are unlikely to make too many alterations to the side that got the job done in their previous outing. Diego Valencia, who netted a brace last Saturday, is likely to keep his place in the starting eleven, providing an attacking threat from the midfield. Tapia, Fernando Zampedri and Cuevas are expected to form the forward line. As for Sao Paulo, they have a long injury list consisting of Luan Santos, Andres Colorado, Alisson, Nikao and Gabriel Sara.
