The UEFA Euro 2020 will take place from June 13 after the end of a gruelling domestic football season. The COVID-19 related delay to the 2019-20 season saw the gap between seasons reduced considerably. As such, players will be going into the tournament suffering from at least a certain degree of fatigue. That’s not even counting the players who won’t be boarding the flights to their national team camps. The knock-on effect of a cramped schedule this season is the unavailability of a number of key players for certain sides. As such, this year’s tournament is set to be much less star-studded.

But it isn’t just injuries that have led to stars missing out. Some have seen a nose dive in form, while others have done well but don’t find themselves in the scheme of things.

With that in mind, let’s look at a star-studded playing XI who will be missing the UEFA Euro 2020

Eric Dier
Midfielder: Eric Dier. The man who scored the winning penalty in England’s winning shootout in the 2018 World Cup won’t be donning the whites this year, largely due to poor form at club level. (Image: Twitter)
Steven Bergwijn
Right-winger: Steven Bergwijn. The Dutch winger hasn’t featured enough for Spurs and that has been the main issue. He’s looked fine when he’s played but limited action isn’t enough. (Image: Twitter)
James Maddison
Attacking midfielder: James Maddison. The Englishman was in fine touch for Leicester but competition for his spot is high in the England set-up. (Image: Twitter)
