An ever-reliable presence in between the posts, Hugo Lloris has been an important player for Tottenham Hotspur since joining the London club in 2012. He marked his record 300th Premier League appearance for the club with a win at Wolves. The Frenchman has also kept his 106th clean sheet in the competition. “You know my answer already about 300 games!” he told the club website with a smile at Molineux. “The most important thing today is the win, the three points. We are still in the process, trying to get as much confidence as we can. We can feel we are growing up a team, and that’s a good feeling.”

Hugo Lloris, who joined Spurs back in 2012, now has 375 appearances under his belt in all competitions. He added, “Yes, I’m really proud, but I’m not really looking at the numbers. I’m more focussed on the start of the season, to be honest, to make sure everyone is giving his best for the team. But, of course, I can be proud because when I signed, I couldn’t think that I would play 300 games in the Premier League for the club, so that’s a very good achievement, a personal achievement, but again there is still a lot to do ahead of me and I need to make sure I am ready to give my best for the team.”

Hugo Lloris: Confidence is coming back

Speaking about the weekend’s game, the French World Cup winner was delighted with the commitment of the team to maintain their shape against a relentless Wolves side. Hugo’s most crucial moment was a one-on-one save when Adama Traore broke through the middle in the second half. In the end, Dele Alli’s early penalty was enough to get all three points.

“Obviously, we suffered a lot against a very good opponent,” stated Hugo. “This is a hard place to deal with, to be honest. We had chances to kill the game, they had a few chances to come back into the game, so we can be very pleased with the result and the team performance.

“Not with the ball, I think that’s an aspect of the game we can improve, but without the ball this is what we want to see, everyone committed, involved, making the runs, making the game hard for the opponent. That’s a good feeling. The confidence is coming back, but, in football, the balance can become very fragile if we’re not focused every day, so that’s the message.”

Nuno Espirito Santo on Wolves win

Earlier, his manager Nuno Espirito Santo expressed his delight over the team’s performance as he walked away from his return to Molineux with three points on Sunday. “We defended well against a tough team that can cause problems, but in the final situations we managed to keep a clean sheet, Hugo did amazing, the boys did amazing, hard work. We had the chance to kill the game, we didn’t do it, and then it’s until the last minutes bodies in front of the ball to take what we came here for.

“You have to stay concentrated. Molineux is a tough place. We started well, good dynamics, but then we lost a little control. They are relentless, but we showed more, I think. I’m very proud of the team because we went until the end. We knew it was going to be a hard task and the boys did amazing. We are trying to be solid, compact and the good games will come, the good situations will come.”
