Billy Gilmour is without a doubt one of the promising young midfield talents in the Premier League. The Scottish footballer has shown his immense potential in the limited number of matches he has played till now. It was clear that the 20-year-old player would struggle for game time at Chelsea due to the world-class players they possess in those positions. Hence, a loan move away to Norwich City made total sense in the summer. Regular game time was thought to be one of the reasons behind Gilmour moving to another club on loan. However, things have not gone as per plan for the youngster, who has struggled for minutes.

There is a big change taking place at Norwich with manager Daniel Farke dismissed after their last game. The club is currently at the bottom of the Premier League table. Meanwhile, Chelsea head coach, Thomas Tuchel, was asked recently if he is going to bring Gilmour back to Stamford Bridge when the transfer window reopens in January, given the 20-year-old has started just five games for the Canaries so far.

‘You have to hang in there’

“We’ll take the decision in January, when the decision has to be made, not now,” responded Tuchel. On the original decision for the player to go out on loan, he added: “The things were clear when we decided together that he is looking for more minutes and more game time in another club. The challenge was clear that he needs to fight his way through.

“Right now things are not going as he maybe wishes and we all wish for, but now is not the moment to already give solutions and cancel the whole project. Sometimes these weeks and months arrive when the situation seems to be stuck or it seems not to go the right way. You have to hang in there, you have to show your quality and you have to make sure you help your team, no matter where it is. That sharpens your character. That will be making a big chapter in your career.

“For me right now it is not the moment to already give solutions for January and open the talks to bring him back. Now it is November and there is still a lot of time to prove that he has enough quality to help Norwich to be a better team.”

Tuchel on the international break

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is hoping to switch off from football and spend some quality time with his family this week during the last international break of this calendar year. A number of Chelsea players will now head off on international duty, which includes recent injury returnees Christian Pulisic and N’Golo Kante.

Tuchel, like any other club manager, hopes that his players return injury-free and with additional minutes under their belts. When asked if he was pleased or worried about players heading away with their nations, the manager was quoted as saying by the club’s website, “Of course both.”

“We are happy on one side for players to get minutes with their nations. They are proud to represent their countries, they are the best players to be nominated to play and I totally understand the emotion that comes with that. On the other side, we would love to rest certain players and keep them with us at Cobham rather than going away with their countries so we can work with them.”
