Firmino scored a double as Liverpool trounced Manchester United 4-2 in the Premier League on Thursday night.
Thiago Alcantara was all praise for the two-goal hero Roberto Firmino after their crucial 4-2 victory against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Thursday night. Two quick strikes by Firmino on either side of the half-time break put the Reds in total control. Calling Firmino the “least-selfish striker”, Thaigo praised the double goal hero for his performance at Old Trafford. “He’s a very important player for us,” he was quoted by liverpoolfc.com. “I think he”s the least-selfish striker I’ve ever seen in my life because he always tries to reach the best option for his teammates, but also he’s a great goalscorer.”
After the match, Thiago began looking ahead to Liverpool’s next ‘final’ as the Reds are in a good position to secure a top-four spot in the table. When asked how was it like to play in the high-octane clash, he said, “Even more amazing to play in. We faced a strong team, they are playing amazing this season and I think for most of the second half we [were] the best version of us.”
The Spanish midfielder was particularly happy with the team’s second-half display. “It was not so comfortable in the first half but we were very effective towards the goal. In the second, I think we dominated more, we created more chances and we could have scored even more goals than we scored,” he further added.
Thiago also spoke about the importance of having Fabinho playing in the midfield. “As I said, it brings the best from all of us having Fab in the middle. He controls the tempo while we don’t have the ball as well, he closes that gap we need when he’s there. He’s very important for all of us,” he elaborated.
The Spanish midfielder is also content with the form the team is showing of late. “I think we correct a couple of mistakes from the past and we are reaching, not the best, but near a great version [of] us,” he said. “At the end, we have the same goal as each other – that’s to reach the Champions League and the top four in the Premier League.”
Thiago’s focus has quickly turned to the important clash against West Brom on Sunday. “I think the most important message that we have to have now for us, for the fans, for our families, for everybody from the Liverpool side is that we have a final on Sunday. That’s the most important message that we have to give,” he concluded.
