Despite the off-field matters having a negative impact, on the field, the Syrian national team has put up a good fight in recent times, having finished above China in Group A during the second round of the AFC World Cup qualifiers to earn a direct qualification spot for next year’s Asian Cup. Meanwhile, the Qasioun Eagles had fallen to as low as 158th in the FIFA World Rankings in March 2015, but then managed to recover in recent years, climbing as high as 68th in July 2018.
Belarus on the other hand, are currently ranked 97th in the world. The White Wings have never qualified for the finals of a major event since becoming established as an independent footballing nation in 1992. After finishing the World Cup qualification campaign with just seven points from eight games, the White Wings headed to the Nations League, finishing at the bottom of League C Group 3, with just three points to their name from six outings.
