Matchday three of the Women’s European Championship 2022 will witness Switzerland women taking on Netherlands women. Switzerland women sit at the bottom of the group with just one point, knowing that their chances of qualification are slim. They will have to be dependent on other results to go in their favour. Switzerland didn’t enter into the 2022 Women’s Euros in the best of forms. In their last six matches before July, they lost three, drew one and won only two. During this period, they conceded 14 goals and scored nine. This type of inconsistency would have been a big concern for them and unfortunately they haven’t been able to cope with it in the tournament. They began their campaign with a 2-2 draw to Portugal and lost their second game to Sweden by 2-1. Switzerland, now find themselves in a very difficult situation where even a win might not be enough for them.
Netherlands had endured a mixed run of results coming into the European Championship. They managed three wins, one draw and two defeats in their last six matches. They, however, will be content with the start that they have made in the Women’s Euros. An opening day 1-1 draw followed by a 3-2 win over Portugal has ensured that the Dutch remain in pole position in the group. They should be able to see Switzerland out and book a place in the knockout stages.
Both the sides don’t have any fitness or suspension issues to deal with, except for Netherlands’ Sari van Veenendaal who was ruled our for the tournament in the initial matches. This will give both the coaches an added advantage as they look to earn a win and aim to qualify for the knockout stages.
