EFL Championship leaders Burnley will travel to Liberty Stadium to take on Swansea City, hoping to secure all three points to extend their lead at the top of the table. Both sides are heading into the match on the back of victories in their previous outings, on Friday. The hosts thrashed Watford 4-0, while Burnley edged past Stoke City 1-0. The Swans are currently occupying 12th spot in the English second tier standings, having collected 35 points from 25 games, while the visitors are sitting at the summit, with 53 points to their name, three clear of second-placed Sheffield United. Swansea netted four times against Watford without reply, courtesy of a brace from Joel Piroe and one goal each from Liam Cullen and Joel Latibeaudiere. It was their ninth league-win of the season and first one from their last seven outings. The result helped the Swans to sneak into the top half of the points table, but they are only three points behind the playoff spot. Meanwhile, the Swans have been pretty good on home turf, having pocketed 16 points from a possible 21 at the Liberty Stadium. Burnley, on the other hand, have been going from strength to strength throughout the 2022-23 campaign, having won each of their last five games in the second tier. Last time out, Vincent Kompany’s side took all three points against Stoke city, courtesy of Josh Cullen’s lone goal on the hour-mark. The Clarets have lost only two of their 25 league-games so far and their last defeat came against title contenders Sheffield United on November 5.
Swansea forward Michael Obafemi, who is still recovering from an injury, is doubtful for Monday’s game, while midfielder Liam Walsh is sidelined with an achilles problem. Last game’s double-goal hero Piroe will lead the line, with Cooper and Cullen in support. As for Burnley, full-back Vitinho is doubtful for the game against the Swans because of an impact injury. Meanwhile Rodriguez, who has netted five times against Swansea, will spearhead the attack.
Swansea City probable starting lineup: Benda, Latibeaudiere, Cabango, Darling, Manning, Allen, Grimes, Fulton, Cooper, Cullen, Piroe
Burnley probable starting lineup: Muric, Roberts, Harwood-Bells, Beyer, Maatsen, Cork, Cullen, Benson, Brownhill, Tella, Rodriguez
