Sunderland will be looking to put their managerial departure behind them when they take on Rotherham United in the EFL Championship. The Wednesday night clash at the Stadium of Light will get its fair share of attention in order to see how the home side will respond without Alex Neil, who has joined Stoke City. It will be a big blow to the Black Cats as Alex Neil played a major role in helping them secure promotion to the Championship from League One last season. With the search for a new manager going on, interim Sunderland boss Martin Canning will look for a response from the team following their defeat to Norwich City in the last match.

Possible Lineups

Martin Canning is expected to retain a setup similar to the one Alex Neil had used at Sunderland. Hence, most of the players from that system should retain their places in the starting line-up. Rotherham United are heading into this clash on the back of a positive result, hence they should also retain more or less the same team from their last game. With not many injury concerns to worry about, both sides are expected to name a strong starting XI on Wednesday night.

Sunderland possible line-up: Patterson, O’Nien, Batth, Cirkin, Gooch, Neil, Evans, Clarke; Pritchard, Simms, Stewart

Rotherham United possible line-up: Johansson, Hall, Wood, Humphreys, Norton-Cuffy, Barlaser, Wiles, Bramall, Rathbone, Ogbene, Washington
