Stoke City have won just three of their opening ten games thus far. In their last outing against QPR, Alex Neil’s side managed to secure a clean sheet despite playing the majority of the match on the backfoot. The Hoops created 20 goal-scoring chances and attempted eight shots on goal, while Stoke City managed to register just one shot on target in the entire match. Prior to that, the Potters thrashed Hull City 3-0 courtesy of a brace from Lewis Baker and one goal from Ben Wilmot.
Watford, on the other hand, shared the spoils against Sunderland, despite taking the lead twice. Keinan David opened the scoring before Aji Alese leveled the score for Sunderland. And then, two minutes after the hour-mark, Luke O’Nien’s own goal restored Watford’s lead before Jewison Bennette’s 87th-minute goal helped the Black Cats earn a point and handed the Hornets their fifth league draw of the season. Watford’s last victory came against Middlesbrough (2-1) on August 31, courtesy of goals from Ismaila Sarr and Vakoun Issouf Bayo.
Stoke City midfielder Jordan Thompson sustained an injury, while representing Northern Ireland during the international break and won’t be available for Sunday’s game. Therefore, Josh Laurent is expected to join Smallbone and Baker in the three-man midfield. Meanwhile, Gayle could partner Delap up front. As for Watford, Sarr is doubtful for the match against the Potters because of an ankle injury, therefore Pedri is likely to join David up front, with Asprilla operating behind them in a free role.
Stoke City probable starting lineup: Bursik, Taylor, Flint, Fox, Wilmot, Baker, Laurent, Smallbone, Fosu-Henry, Gayle, Delap
Watford probable starting lineup: Bachmann, Cathcart, Troost-ekong, Hause, Sema, Choudhury, Kayembe, Kamara, Asprilla, Pedro, Davis
