However, their task at hand does not get any easier, as they will be up against a spirited Southampton side, who are on a good run of form in recent games.

The Saints started the season with a 4-1 hammering against Tottenham Hotspur. It is unlikely that Erik ten Hag will make too many changes to a winning squad. Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez thrived at the base of the defence, while Tyrell Malacia defended Mohamed Salah brilliantly in their last game. All three are expected to retain their spots. It means skipper Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw have to be content with a place on the bench for the second match running. However, new signing Casemiro is all set to make his debut for United but it is not clear whether he will start the match. Anthony Martial, who came on as a second-half substitute against Liverpool, has been ruled out of this clash.
Although his absence does not necessarily guarantee a starting place for Cristiano Ronaldo. Even in the last game, Anthony Elanga and Jadon Sancho played on the flanks while Marcus Rashford started up front. On Saturday, Victor Lindelof’s participation might be in doubt while Facundo Pellistri and Brandon Williams are definitely out for the visitors. Meanwhile, Southampton do not have many injury concerns. Valentino Livramento will miss the clash but Romain Perraud has returned to training. He could be in line to play some part on Saturday.
