Manchester City will be aiming to put pressure of Premier League leaders Arsenal when they travel to St Mary’s Stadium on Saturday to take on Southampton. Man City are currently sitting at the second spot in the English top tier standings having collected 64 points from 28 games, eight adrift of the Gunners, who have played an extra match. The hosts meanwhile are languishing at the bottom of the table, with just 23 points to their name, four away from safety. The Cityzens are heading into the match on the back of a 4-1 victory over Liverpool last weekend, while the Saints suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat against West Ham United.

After coming-from-behind thrice to secure a thrilling 3-3 draw against Tottenham at home, Southampton came away from the London Stadium empty handed last weekend, losing to relegations rivals West Ham courtesy of Nayef Aguerd’s lone goal in the first half. The result extended their winless streak to four games, losing two and drawing two in that period. The Saints’ sixth and last league-win of the season came against Leicester City at the start of the March, thanks to Carlos Alcaraz’s lone goal in the first-half. Meanwhile Southampton have recorded just two wins from their 14 league-games at the St. Mary’s Stadium and will need to record more positive results in front of their home supporters in order to have any chance of staying in the top flight for one more season.
Manchester City, on the other hand, have collected 27 points from a possible 42 on the road this season. Pep Guardiola’s side are undefeated in their last 11 games across all competitions, recording nine wins and two draws in that period. Last Saturday, Man City comprehensively beat the Reds at Etihad Stadium, courtesy of Julian Alvarez, Kevin de Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan and Jack Grealish. The result extended their winning run to seven games in all competitions, scoring a stunning 27 goals and conceding only two in the process.
