Southampton have been on a disappointing run of results in their recent fixtures. In their last six games, they have managed two wins to go with three defeats and a draw. This unfortunate recent form has left the Saints just two points above the relegation zone. However, their performance against Manchester United in their last game will provide them with some encouragement as they continue their progress in the season.
Chelsea have managed three wins, one draw and two defeats in their last six outings. After a 3-0 thrashing by Leeds United in the matchday three, Chelsea did manage to get back on track with a narrow 2-1 win over Leicester City. Thomas Tuchel would have been disappointed with Chelsea’s performance in the previous campaign but he has been able to receive a much different set of players for this season. The arrivals of players like Kalidou Koulibaly, Marc Cucurella, Wesley Fofana, Raheem Sterling and possibly more, Chelsea look set to mount a serious title challenge.
Southampton will be without the services of Valentino Livramento who is battling a long-term ligament injury. Chelsea, on the other hand, will be without N’Golo Kante and Conor Gallagher due to injury and suspension respectively. Marcos Alonso will also be unavailable due to personal reasons.
Southampton possible line-up: Bazunu, Walker-Peters, Bella-Kotchap, Salisu, Djenepo, Lavia, Ward-Prowse, Armstrong, Aribo, Elyououssi, Adams
Chelsea possible line-up: Mendy, Fofana, Silva, Koulibaly, James, Jorginho, Loftus-Cheek, Cucurella, Mount, Sterling, Havertz
