In the previous round of the FA Cup, Blackpool got the better of Nottingham Forest 4-1, while Southampton edged past Crystal Palace 2-1
Southampton and Blackpool will take a break from league action and will face-off in a fourth-round FA Cup contest on Saturday evening. Southampton are placed at the foot of the Premier League table, while Blackpool are also languishing in the relegation zone of the Championship. With not many things going according to the plan for these two sides in their respective divisions, the cup break will act as a welcome distraction for them both.
They both have not been able to score enough or stop conceding in their respective matches. Their struggles across the pitch have been well documented so far this season. There is still a long way to go in the campaign hence anything is yet possible. However, these two sides must add a lot more consistency to their games if they are to climb out of the relegation zone before the end of the campaign.
However, for now they can keep their minds away from league duties and focus on the FA Cup. Coming into this contest, they both are not in the best of form. In the Championship, Blackpool are sitting 23rd with 26 points from 27 games. Meanwhile, Southampton have 15 points from 20 games to be placed at the bottom of the Premier League. In the previous round of the FA Cup, Blackpool got the better of Nottingham Forest 4-1, while Southampton edged past Crystal Palace 2-1.
