Portugal would be keen to end their group stage assignments with a hundred percent winning record when they take on South Korea in the FIFA World Cup 2022. Cristiano Ronaldo-led side have already booked a place in the round of 16 with two impressive victories. Unless something extraordinary happens, Portugal are set to finish at the top of Group H. On the other hand, South Korea need all three points on Friday to have a chance of qualifying from the group. A victory alone will not be enough for South Korea, as they also need Uruguay to beat Ghana in the other match.

South Korea started the World Cup on a positive note with a well-earned draw against Uruguay. However, they suffered a 3-2 defeat in the next match to Ghana. This result has left the Asian nation in the third position. However, they can try to take advantage of the fact that Portugal will most likely rotate their squad in order to give rest to their first-team players. With the European nation already sealing their passage to the knockout stage, they could rest some of their main players for this contest. Despite the changes to the line-up, Portugal are still expected to be the favourites on Friday.

South Korea vs Portugal: Records, Stats & Goals

These two countries have not played each other on many occasions but there has been one noticeable fixture between them in the past. Twenty years ago when the World Cup was held in South Korea, these two countries went head-to-head in a group-stage contest. Surprisingly, it was the home side that came on top. A goal from former Manchester United attacker, Ji-sung Park, deep in the second half was enough to settle the contest. The Asian nation will need a repeat of that result on Friday to have any chance of qualifying for the knockout stage.
