Shrewsbury Town will host Burnley in a pre-season friendly at New Meadow on Friday night. Both sides are heading into the tie on the back of not so convincing results in their previous friendlies. The hosts played out a goalless draw at AFC Telford United in their last outing, while Burnley were thrashed 3-0 by Wolves last Saturday. Meanwhile this will be the first meeting between the two sides since April 1997. Shrewsbury didn’t have a great 2021-22 season, finishing 18th in the League One table. Salop managed to avoid relegation to the fourth tier by finishing 10 points above the drop zone. Steve Cotterill’s side have been busy in the transfer market, adding Jordan Shipley, chey Dunkley, Tom Bayliss, Aiden O’Brien, Taylor Moore and Julien Da costa.

Burnley on the other hand, got relegated from the Premier League after six seasons by finishing 18th in the table last term. The Clarets are hoping to bounce back to the top flight under the coaching of new boss and former Manchester City legend Vincent company. The Clarets began their pre-season with a narrow 1-0 win over Rochdale before losing to Wolves. This will be Burnley’s final warm-up match before taking on Huddersfield in their Championship opener on July 30. The Clarets have been pretty busy in the transfer market, bringing in CJ Egan Riley, Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Scott Twine, Luke McNally, Samuel Bastien and Josh Cullen.
Shrewsbury head coach Cotterill is likely to rotate the squad heavily in order to build the fitness of the team and help the new recruits gel with the team. New arrival O-Brien could partner Daniel Udoh up front with Bayliss and Leahy pulling the strings from the midfield. As for Burnley, Twine is expected to play alongside Vydra up front. Ashley Westwood and Jay Rodriguez are sidelined with injuries while Johan Berg Gudmundsson would be hoping to get some game time after recovering from a calf injury.
Shrewsbury Town probable starting lineup: Marosi; Pennington, Moore, Dunkley; Da costa, Bayliss, Leahy, Nurse; Shipley; O’Brien, Udoh
Burnley probable starting lineup: Norris; Egan-Riley, Hardwood-Bellis, McNalley, Taylor; Corney, Bastien, Brownhill, McNeil; Twine; Vydra
