Two of the in-form sides in the Championship, Sheffield united and Middlesbrough, will square off at Bramall Lane on Wednesday night. The hosts are currently occupying second spot in the English second tier standings, having collected 61 points from 30 games, while Middlesbrough, who have played a game extra, are sitting one place behind them, separated by ten points. Both clubs are heading into the match on the back of convincing victories in their respective outings on Saturday. Sheffield thrashed Swansea City 3-0, while the visitors got the better of Cardiff City 3-1.

Sheffield are in a strong position to earn an automatic promotion to the Premier League this season. The Blades have been in scintillating form since the World Cup break, recording seven wins and two draws from their last nine second tier games. Last time out, Paul Heckingbottom’s side netted three times against the Swans, courtesy of efforts from Sander Berge, Jack Robinson and Oli McBurnie. It was their 18th league-win of the season. Prior to that, Sheffiled defeated National League side Wrexham 3-1 in the FA Cup fourth round replay and they will face Tottenham Hotspur in the last-16 stage on March 1.

Middlesbrough, on the other hand, got eliminated from the FA Cup in the third round and therefore are concentrating only on the Championship. The Boro, who were struggling at the bottom half of the table during the first half of the season, have been in stunning form since the appointment of Michael Carrick as manager in October, winning 10 of their last 12 second tier games. In that run, Middlesbrough netted 26 goals. Meanwhile, the former Manchester United midfielder’s team conceded just a solitary goal in their last five league-games. In their last outing against Cardiff, Marcus Forss’ opener was canceled out in the 25th-minute, beforeCameron Archer restored Boro’s lead and Riley McGree sealed the win with their third in the dying minutes to wrap up a 15th league-win of the campaign.
