Shanghai Shenhua will host Guangzhou in a Chinese Super League fixture at the Puwan Stadium on Sunday. Both sides are heading into the tie on the back of victories. The hosts defeated Wuhan Zall 2-0 last time out, while Guangzhou secured a narrow 1-0 win over Hebei in their previous meeting. Shanghai Shenhua have made an impressive start to the 2022 CSL season, winning four of their opening five games to sit at the third spot, while the visitors are languishing at the 16th spot only above Hebei and Guangzhou City FC.
On Monday, Shanghai Shenhua got the better of Wuhan Zall courtesy of goals from Jianrong Zhu and Alexander N’Doumbou. It was the Flower of Shanghai’s second consecutive victory, having defeated Hebei 3-1 on June16. Wu Jingui’s men have picked up 13 points from a possible 15 this term and are just one point away from leaders Henan Songshan Longmen, with a game in hand. The Flower of Shanghai are playing an attractive brand of football, scoring nine goals so far while also keeping three clean sheets.
Guangzhou, on the other hand, earned their first three points of the campaign in their last outing against Hebei. Yang Liyu’s 67th minute strike was enough to separate the two sides. The result helped the South China Tigers to move to 16th spot in the standings and are now level on points with Chengdu Rongcheng in the early battle for survival. It has been a disastrous season for Liu Zhiyu’s men so far, conceding nine goals and scoring just once. Their biggest defeat of the season came up against Wuhan Three Towns (6-0) on June 7.

Chenije Zhu, who netted the winner in the last edition of this fixture will lead the attack alongside Bassogog. Wang and Wu would pull the string in the midfield while N’Doumbou and Cao could occupy the flanks. As for Guangzhou, eighteen-year-old Afrden Asqer is suspended after he received a red card against Hebei. Shibo Liu is expected to keep his place between the posts with Bi and Zhu in front of him at the heart of the defence.
