Sevilla will face Roma in the Europa League final at Puskas Arena on Wednesday night. Both sides are heading into the match on the back of 2-1 defeat in their respective league-fixture in the weekend, with Los Nervionenses losing out to Real Madrid in the La Liga, while Jose Mourinho’s side suffered a Serie A-defeat away to Fiorentina. Meanwhile, only previous competitive meeting between these two sides was in the Europa League last 16 back in 2020, where Sevilla prevailed 2-0, thanks to goals from Sergio Reguilon and Youssef En Nesyri, and they went on to lift the prize for a sixth time.

Sevilla booked a place in the continental playoff courtesy of defeating Juventus 3-2 on aggregate in the semi-final tie. Los Rojiblancos won the second leg of their last four stage 2-1 thanks to goals from Suso and Erik Lamela. Meanwhile, the Spanish outfit have won the competition on each previous occasion they have reached its finale, with the first success coming in 2006. Sevilla eliminated the likes of PSV Eindhoven, Fenerbahce, Manchester United and Juve en route to the final. Nevertheless, they are heading into the match on the back of a three game winless run in the La Liga, recording two draws in the period. Meanwhile, last time out, Jose Luis Mendilibar’s side suffered their 14th league-defeat of the season despite taking the lead through Rafa Mir’s third-minute effort.

Roma, on the other hand, are aiming to secure back-to-back European trophies, having lifted the Europa Conference League crown last term. On the other hand, Giallorossi boss Mourinho is on the verge of becoming the first coach to win the Europa League with three different clubs, following prior triumphs with Porto (2003) and Manchester United (2017). The Wolves defeated the likes of RB Salzburg, Real Sociedad, Feyenoord and Bayer Leverkusen in the knockout stages to reach this far in Europe’s second tier tournament. In the last four stage against Leverkusen, Edoardo Bove’s lone goal in the first leg at Stadio Olimpico proved to be the decider. Meanwhile, the Wolves are sitting at the sixth spot in the Italian top flight standings, having collected 60 points from 37 games. Last time out, Mourinho’s men lost out to Fiorentina (2-1) in the top flight despite taking the lead through Stephan El Shaarawy’s third-minute opener.
