Sevilla will be looking to open their account for the 2022-23 season when they take on newly promoted Real Valladolid in La Liga on Friday. Julen Lopetegui’s side did not have the best of starts to the season, losing their opener to Osasuna last weekend. Hence, the upcoming match presents them with an opportunity to get their first points of the campaign. Meanwhile, they will be up against a Valladolid side that also lost its opener last weekend. As a result, both teams will be eager to register their first win of the season on Friday.

On the opening weekend of the new La Liga season, Sevilla travelled to Osasuna. On paper, Lopetegui’s side were the favourites but the then home side made life extremely difficult for their superior opponents. In the end, a 74th-minute penalty by Aimar Oroz helped Osasuna get all three points through a 2-1 win. Not the start Sevilla would have hoped to have but they have a great opportunity on Friday to claim their first win. Real Valladolid played host to Villarreal in their opener and suffered a 3-0 defeat at home. They will be eager to bounce back from that setback to get their first win of the season.

Both sides have a few injury concerns to keep an eye out for ahead of this clash. Sevilla will miss two important first-team players, as their widemen Munir El-Haddadi and Suso will most likely not be fit for this clash. They both were absent for their opener against Osasuna as well. With Jules Kounde and Diego Carlos departing the club this summer, it will be interesting to see how they will replace the defensive duo in the squad. Besides, Manchester United loanee Alex Telles will be keen to make his first start after coming off the bench in the last game. On the other hand, Shon Weissman’s absence will be a big one for Real Valladolid. Hence, Sergio Leon could retain his place up top in the Starting XI.
