Sevilla beat Celta Vigo 3-4 in a pulsating encounter to keep themselves alive in the La Liga title race. The win helped them to 61 points from 30 games and consolidate fourth position.

Sevilla took the lead through a Jules Kounde header in the 7th minute. However, Celta Vigo hit two goals in the space of three minutes to take the lead through an Iago Aspas double. The first came from the penalty spot after a foul from Kounde.

Fernando then equalized for Sevilla in the 35th minute with a deflected shot. But Brais Mendez restored Celta’s lead just before half time.

Ivan Rakitic and substitute Gomez scored two goals in the second half to seal a thrilling victory for Sevilla at the Balaidos on Monday.

Juan Lopetegui side are 4th in the table, six points behind league leaders Atletico Madrid who drew away to Real Betis on Sunday.

“More than ever we have to have faith in ourselves and keep doing what we have been doing so far this season,” Lopetegui said after the match.

Real Madrid beat Barcelona 2-1 on Saturday to be placed at the second spot with 66 points, one point clear of third placed Barcelona .

Four wins in the last five games certainly puts Sevilla on course for the title race, even if their chances are slim.
